Irish I was quilting 

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Yes, Irish I was quilting. My husband and I opened a quilt and yarn shop in Bunn, NC about 25 miles Northeast of Raleigh. We have been open for 8 months. Fortunately we have been so busy I haven't had much time to make any quilts for myself. I am usually making samples for the shop when I can.  To celebrate Worldwide Quilting Day which is tomorrow, Marian from Seams to be Sew has brought us all together for this wonderful blog hop and a lot of Giveaways.  I have to say I have not blogged for almost an entire year for obvious reasons :)  My sewing room has changed quite a bit. Here is what my new sewing room looks like. 





The upstairs of my quilt shop ha ha. I share it with the customers, "friends".  


At home to keep things organized I like to use old pretzel/snack containers like these...






I remove the label and sort scraps by color in each one.  I also have this rolling cart that I bought from Sam's Club and again I try to sort the scraps by color.




This fishing tackle box makes another great organizer.  I keep buttons, safety eyes, and other small things in it.  Sometimes you can find a tackle box is more inexpensive than some of the  sewing organizers out there.




    I would say that my favorite tool is my electric seam ripper.  Check this out!














You should be able to get one at your local quilt shop. We have these available at our shop or online.  Man oh man does it help.  I hate frogging (rip it, rip it) one rip at a time.  The electric frogger really does come in handy. Thanks to Marian at Seams to be Sew for bringing us all together from all around the world.

    I also use the Quick Ripper Wendy and it is by far and away one of my favorite tools these days... I do use it more for embroidery mistakes than anything else, but it is a great tool and I'd recommend it highly to anyone... Thank you for showing off your room and your shop, the snack containers are cool, I myself discovered those when we moved back to the states and I've been collecting them myself, I started putting my scraps in them.     I don't have a favorite, seems as though I like some things from many different manufacturers.
    I have a few tool boxes, that I bought on sale at Walmart, they are great for little bits and things.

    I like them all, I care more about the designs and I have favorites from all of them. But if I could only pick one it would be Moda, well at least at this moment.

    I really don't have a favorite.  I use whatever the LQS carries or whatever is given to me.  I mainly make scrappy quilts and everything goes.  Right now I am looking for low volume and designer or brand doesn't matter.

    I like all of the manufactures. I like Moda especially for their solids and marbles. I also like RJR because they produce Jinny Beyers fabric lines.

    I must confess, I am a fabriholic~ I like all fabric lines. I am not picky one bit! But Moda surely does release some great lines! How fun to have your friends visiting you at your shop!

    Not a fabric "brand" kinda girl since 90% of my fabric is purchased secondhand. I did buy a Riley Blake jelly roll recently to finish off my vintage four patch quilt.
    I use a dresser to organize my fabric - but you'll see that in my upcoming post for this hop.

    I couldn't pick just one fabric company as a favorite. As long as the quality is good, I choose by pattern and color.  And there are a lot of fabrics out there that I like!

    I love Moda, Studio e and Henry Glass. Well, if I be truthful, it is the print or design that draws me first, then the fabric company. I know with those listed I get a great quality fabric!

    Boy!  I was about to get REALLY jealous over that sewing room . . . until I finished reading and realized where it was!  haha!  You really had us going!  My favorite manufacturer is, I think, Moda, though I love fabrics from just about everyone!  But I have loved the Moda Marbles for years -- love they way they blend with everything.     Your sewing space is filled with color and colorful friends!  How wonderful!  I love color.  That colorful draw unit for your scraps is really neat.  My scraps are not neat.  I need to organize them much better.  Thank you for sharing in the blog hop.   Oh ... my favorite fabric manufacturer is probably Art Gallery for color, design and qualtity.  Robert Faufmann makes beautifully rich colorful cotton blenders.  For solids, nothing compares to Kona.  Maywood Studios fabric quality is wonderful.   Northcott is also nice.  I love fabric and color ... :) Pat

    I think my favorite fabric company is Hoffman because of the gorgeous batiks, and next would be Moda because of the enormous selection. They really put out all kinds of different fabrics!     It's hard to just pick one fabric company as it depends on the fabric and what I am looking for. I've bought from a lot of different companies and am so impressed with Northcott, Art Gallery, Moda, Robert Kaufmann, and Riley Blake. I'm sure I'll think of more. Nice sewing room. I bet you get a lot done. Karen
