Happy St. Patrick's Day! Yes, Irish I was quilting. My husband and I opened a quilt and yarn shop in Bunn, NC about 25 miles Northeast of Raleigh. We have been open for 8 months. Fortunately we have been so busy I haven't had much time to make any quilts for myself. I am usually making samples for the shop when I can. To celebrate Worldwide Quilting Day which is tomorrow, Marian from Seams to be Sew has brought us all together for this wonderful blog hop and a lot of Giveaways. I have to say I have not blogged for almost an entire year for obvious reasons :) My sewing room has changed quite a bit. Here is what my new sewing room looks like.
The upstairs of my quilt shop ha ha. I share it with the customers, "friends".
At home to keep things organized I like to use old pretzel/snack containers like these...
I remove the label and sort scraps by color in each one. I also have this rolling cart that I bought from Sam's Club and again I try to sort the scraps by color.
This fishing tackle box makes another great organizer. I keep buttons, safety eyes, and other small things in it. Sometimes you can find a tackle box is more inexpensive than some of the sewing organizers out there.
I would say that my favorite tool is my electric seam ripper. Check this out!
You should be able to get one at your local quilt shop. We have these available at our shop or online. Man oh man does it help. I hate frogging (rip it, rip it) one rip at a time. The electric frogger really does come in handy. Thanks to Marian at Seams to be Sew for bringing us all together from all around the world.
Now, do we have some giveaways or what? First you can enter for a chance to win a $25.00 Gift Certificate to my shop, The Broken Needle. The winner will be announced on Monday. If the winner is local you may use it in the shop. If you are not local you may use it online.
Next Northcott Fabrics will be giving away 3 fat quarters from the Surfs Up collection.

I like all the manufactures but I sure like the feel of Art Gallery and Michael Miller Cotton Coture.
ReplyDeleteI think Moda is my favorite, thanks!
ReplyDeletecork@pa.rr.com
I also use the Quick Ripper Wendy and it is by far and away one of my favorite tools these days... I do use it more for embroidery mistakes than anything else, but it is a great tool and I'd recommend it highly to anyone... Thank you for showing off your room and your shop, the snack containers are cool, I myself discovered those when we moved back to the states and I've been collecting them myself, I started putting my scraps in them. It is so good to see you participating again. Best Wishes!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favourite, I like them all.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I will have to check out that seam ripper. A new gadget!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I love Northcott fabric.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite fabric is Moda....Thanks for sharing your space. I'm getting great ideas from everyone.
ReplyDeleteI like Northcott best, followed closely by Moda.
ReplyDeleteNo favorite brand here, I like anything that comes from my local quilt shops!
ReplyDeleteAwesome sewing room!
ReplyDeletepatsystitch@gvtc.com
I don't really have a favorite fabric company. I just buy what I like, but always from a quality company.
ReplyDeleteYour sewing area is so awesome. I haven't seen the seam ripper, but I really like how it works. I think it would come in very handy in my sewing room. Thank you for sharing today.
ReplyDeleteHow can I pick just one favorite fabric manufacturer when there are so many to choose from, so I will take the easy out and say that I love them all, but will single one out when looking for a specific pattern. lv2bquilting2@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patick's Day! I must say, I just love Dimples fabric - it's my go-to blender.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite changes with the colors, season and lines they are showing!
ReplyDeleteNorthcott is by far my favorite.
ReplyDeleteYour sewing area looks so neat and how fun to share it with other quilters all the time. I really like the photo in your header too!

ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite, seems as though I like some things from many different manufacturers.
ReplyDeleteI have a few tool boxes, that I bought on sale at Walmart, they are great for little bits and things.
I like them all lol...But depends on the print...I am big wild life person.... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI like them all, I care more about the designs and I have favorites from all of them. But if I could only pick one it would be Moda, well at least at this moment.
ReplyDeleteI have recently started quilting, so I do not have a favorite yet. I've tried Moda and I like it.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I call a sewing room. One where others can share the fun! Congrats on the new shop! Many years of success!
ReplyDeleteI really don't have a favorite. I use whatever the LQS carries or whatever is given to me. I mainly make scrappy quilts and everything goes. Right now I am looking for low volume and designer or brand doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteI like all of the manufactures. I like Moda especially for their solids and marbles. I also like RJR because they produce Jinny Beyers fabric lines.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have your own quilt shop.
ReplyDeleteI must confess, I am a fabriholic~ I like all fabric lines. I am not picky one bit! But Moda surely does release some great lines! How fun to have your friends visiting you at your shop!
ReplyDeleteWell it looks like you have quite a lovely studio...thanks for sharing your space!!
ReplyDeleteSo many ideas, my favorite being the corner shelving and the roller cart. Congrats on your new shop, I know oits work but still has to be fun.
ReplyDeleteThose jars are a great way to store scraps! They stay in view and are so pretty all lined up. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNot a fabric "brand" kinda girl since 90% of my fabric is purchased secondhand. I did buy a Riley Blake jelly roll recently to finish off my vintage four patch quilt.
ReplyDeleteI use a dresser to organize my fabric - but you'll see that in my upcoming post for this hop.
BTW cute avatar!

ReplyDeleteCONGRATS ON YOUR BUSINESS! Like several, but I will choose Northcott. Thanks for sharing!msstitcher1214@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteI can't choose just one as many favorite lines/designers at several, but Marcus,Benartex and Moda are both in the top running! As for Northcott--Love , love , love Stonehenge!!
ReplyDeleteHoffman Batiks! Whootwhoot.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea to use a tackle box!!! Everything in one spot!! Perfect!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for some great organizing ideas--I have the same type as you have from Sam's but some of my colors are overflowing. I like the pretzel container idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm not as particular about a certain manufacturer as I am about whether I love the fabric or not. If I love the fabric, that's my favorite manufacturer!
ReplyDeleteYour shop looks great! I'm glad you have been so busy. I've been in Bunn! My sons used to live in Raleigh and I think I've been everywhere in the triangle area. Thank you for sharing your pics and the information about the electric ripper. That could come in handy! dezertsuz at gmail

ReplyDeleteBoy! I was about to get REALLY jealous over that sewing room . . . until I finished reading and realized where it was! haha! You really had us going! My favorite manufacturer is, I think, Moda, though I love fabrics from just about everyone! But I have loved the Moda Marbles for years -- love they way they blend with everything. (lynnstck[at]yahoo.com)
ReplyDeleteHoffman batiks are my favorite. =)
ReplyDeleteYour sewing space is filled with color and colorful friends! How wonderful! I love color. That colorful draw unit for your scraps is really neat. My scraps are not neat. I need to organize them much better. Thank you for sharing in the blog hop. Oh ... my favorite fabric manufacturer is probably Art Gallery for color, design and qualtity. Robert Faufmann makes beautifully rich colorful cotton blenders. For solids, nothing compares to Kona. Maywood Studios fabric quality is wonderful. Northcott is also nice. I love fabric and color ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite fabric company is Hoffman because of the gorgeous batiks, and next would be Moda because of the enormous selection. They really put out all kinds of different fabrics! I'm a little confused about what is required for the giveaway, but hopefully this blog post counts! Thank you for the opportunity to win! ljbisme at msn dot com
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to just pick one fabric company as it depends on the fabric and what I am looking for. I've bought from a lot of different companies and am so impressed with Northcott, Art Gallery, Moda, Robert Kaufmann, and Riley Blake. I'm sure I'll think of more. Nice sewing room. I bet you get a lot done. Karen
